Is your team stuck in its own head?
One of the things we explore on a Dynamic Teaming Walkshop is the relationship between two ways of experiencing the world: the Default Mode Network (DMN) and the Direct Experience Network (DEN).
The DMN is associated with our internal narrative: thinking, reflecting, remembering, imagining and mentally rehearsing. Often referred to as Monkey mind.
Useful, certainly.
But in organisations, it can also keep us trapped in familiar patterns.
Endless meetings, established processes, overthinking, risk avoidance and protecting our positions. Our inner status monkey is happy, but is the team actually learning?
The DEN brings us into direct experience: sensing, observing, doing, responding and adapting to what’s happening here and now.
This is where a Dynamic Teaming #Walkshop comes alive.
Take people out of their usual environment, give them a shared challenge and let them experience what happens when they have to think and act together.
They experiment, make mistakes, give feedback, adapt and discover capabilities in themselves and others.
And here’s something the team find particularly interesting:
#Leadership becomes potential energy.
Rather than being attached to a job title or positional authority, leadership becomes a collective capability, ready to be activated wherever and whenever the situation requires it.
Someone steps forward, someone else contributes their expertise, another spots an opportunity. Leadership moves around the team according to need.
That’s the beauty of Dynamic, self-organising teams.
We don’t need everyone to lead all the time. We need everyone to have the confidence and capability to contribute when it matters.
Less hierarchy. Less process for process’s sake. More experience, adaptation and collective intelligence.
And perhaps most importantly, more #AI-proof in an AI 🌍
Because the real competitive advantage isn’t simply having access to better technology. It’s developing teams that can think, learn, adapt and achieve together in ways that neither individuals nor AI can easily replicate.
