“Humans have a more complex motivational structure and more capability to solve social dilemmas than posited in earlier rational-choice theory.”
— Elinor Ostrom, Nobel Prize Lecture, 2009.
Shocking to see the destruction of a forest that google carried out in Finland for a datacentre, it’s drop in share price may well have been Karma!
Seeing them illegally cutting down a whole forest, let alone the death and destruction happening in the world today, it’s pretty obvious that the wealthy, stealthy and psychopathic live to persecute and exploit the public and planet.
It is a common feature throughout species in the natural world, that parasites will… parasite!.
It’s also well known and researched that the Dark tetrad of personalities thrive in hierarchies and bureaucracy. Not to say that ALL people who work in them are parasites.
But it maybe explains why people feel burnt out and as Gallop’s data shows that roughly 77% to 80% of employees worldwide are either not engaged or actively disengaged.
But there is a solution to all this, it just takes brave people and business owners to take on the challenge at the local level.
Create small dynamic, egalitarian teams and communities.
It certainly won’t be for the people who prefer the past exploitative method, but if you want to make a difference, give me a shout.
And, if you are working in one of these organisations mentioned above, here’s what I said to a group of overseas intelligence agents who were frustrated working under such conditions…
“You’re all secret agents, now you’ve got to become secret change agents.”
Like the imaginal cells in a caterpillar, it is said that when a group of rogue cells begin to act differently and begin to work together, the caterpillar will transform when they number about 10% of the total…and funnily enough Mckinsey mentioned that when a similar number of front line staff directly own the transformation , chances of a successful re-design doubles.
We can start creating better systems ourselves, one team, one business and one community at a time.
