150km around the Lake District for CALM

This Wednesday, a team of four of us, from very different backgrounds, will set off on a 150km loop around the Lake District to raise money for Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) — a charity doing vital, life-saving work in suicide prevention and mental health support.

I’ve designed the route to take in some of the Lake District’s finest terrain, including Old Man of Coniston and Scafell Pike, England’s highest mountain.

On the penultimate day, we’ll wild camp on the approach to Helvellyn, hopefully giving us a sunrise worth getting up early for, before descending back to Ambleside on our final day.

For me, this challenge is about more than the miles.

As an Ambassador for Adventure Mind, and through my involvement in veteran mental health research, supporting this team sits very naturally alongside the work we do through Stoic Pilgrim Adventures CIC.

We work with teams and leaders to develop resilience, adaptability and the capacity to perform when things get difficult — and it feels good to put some of that into practice for a cause that matters.

CALM does vital work. If you can spare anything to support the challenge, we’d be hugely grateful.

Every donation, share and word of encouragement helps us get closer to the target.

Many thanks for all the support so far. It genuinely means a lot.

Wish us good weather, strong legs and, hopefully, a decent sunrise. 🙏🥾⛰️
