“We are a society of altruists, governed by psychopaths.” – George Monbiot

These words carry a profound truth about the complexities of our modern society.

As individuals, we may strive for altruism, seeking to make positive contributions and create a world where everyone can thrive. Yet, we find ourselves navigating a landscape where profit often takes precedence over peace and well-being.

It’s essential to recognise that the majority of us are inherently good people, endeavoring to navigate life’s challenges with compassion and empathy.

However, amidst this pursuit, there exist the dark tetrad of narcissists, psychopaths, machiavellians and sadists solely focused on maximising profit, regardless of the consequences for society, nature and children’s future.

One need only look at recent events to see this dynamic in action. Even when the possibility of peace arises, there are those who prioritise financial gain over the greater good.

Lobbyists and politicians, driven by their own interests, often perpetuate this profit-driven agenda. They prioritise short-term gains over long-term sustainability, sacrificing crucial resources like healthcare and infrastructure for the sake of economic gain.

The reality is stark: there is little profit to be found in peace. Instead, industries built on conflict and war thrive, perpetuating cycles of violence and instability.

Leaders like Boris Johnson, influenced by such interests, make decisions that prioritise arms sales over the well-being of society.

Let’s work towards a future where peace is not just a possibility but a priority, and where the well-being of all is safeguarded above the interests of a few.
