Here’s a way I use to examine the client’s world through the lens of the TREAD Model – a dynamic approach to understanding and transforming behavior.
– Decoding TREAD in Coaching
– Triggers (T): Triggers, whether they’re thoughts, people, or environmental factors, play a pivotal role in behavior. Think of it like going to rehab – a controlled environment to minimize triggers. However, the challenge arises when individuals return home, where familiar triggers might prompt a relapse.
– Release (R): Release involves the bio-chemical messages that swiftly travel through our body, reinforcing habits unconsciously. Understanding this aspect is crucial in breaking free from automatic responses, especially in addiction recovery.
– Assign (A): We give meaning to our feelings, often based on pre-existing mental models. All behavior, even seemingly negative ones, has a positive intent. Assigning new meanings and updating old mental models is a key focus in coaching.
– Decide (D): Ultimately, we decide our next steps. Coaching, especially when conducted outdoors, provides a unique opportunity to examine an individual’s TREAD strategy. It’s about uncovering limiting beliefs, practicing new reactions, and changing the meanings attached to events.
– The Power of Coaching with TREAD – Overcoming Limitations: Coaching allows clients to uncover and overcome limitations by dissecting their TREAD strategy. It’s a powerful tool for reshaping behavior and fostering positive change. – Outdoor Coaching Dynamics: Nature adds a unique dimension to coaching. Outdoors, clients can gain a fresh perspective, leveraging the environment to recalibrate their responses and reshape their decision-making.
– Collaborative Transformation: A coach serves as an external perspective, aiding clients in garnering insights and support more easily. It’s a collaborative journey towards personal growth.
