🔹 Why We Must Ditch Toxic Hierarchy and Blind Allegiance by ‘Special Forces Followers’ 🔹

For years, Special Forces (SF) were seen as the pinnacle of teamwork, resilience, and leadership. But that doesn’t mean they’re the ultimate blueprint.

In my own experience, I quickly realised I couldn’t just “follow orders” without question, especially when decisions felt off-course, clashing with my values.

Blind allegiance can undermine integrity, especially when leadership dictates silence over thought, obedience over values.

Yes, there’s a time for decisive leadership in high-stakes situations. But once the dust settles, every team—military or corporate—needs space to step back, reflect, and check if the chosen path aligns with its moral compass.

Often, hierarchies push forward agendas that ultimately serve the powerful few, cloaked in language of loyalty and sacrifice, but aimed at profit or influence.

True leadership is honourable. And real leaders understand the value of questioning, accountability, and purpose-driven progress—not just obedience.

When chaos comes to an end, we often see those who caused it slipping off to the speaking circuit, narrating their “hero’s journey” while leaving victims and communities to pick up the pieces.

So let’s aim for a future that values courageous questioning, purposeful leadership, and a commitment to integrity over hierarchy.
