🌀 Even bloody obvious ones, that are staring us in the face! 🌟
Those subtle ripples that hint at incoming chaos, but we dismiss them until it’s too late.
This isn’t just a personal blind spot; it’s a systemic issue.
Normalcy bias kicks in, telling us, “Things will stay the same, nothing to worry about here.”
🌊 But when those signals grow into a tidal wave, it’s already too late to adapt gracefully. 🏃♀️➡️
Why do we do this? It’s not just ignorance—it’s resistance. Resistance to the seven fears:
☠️ Fear of letting others be right, even a little bit. Because if they’re right, we’re forced to re-examine our own stance.
☠️ Fear of accepting reality. Acknowledging what’s happening means we’d have to act, and that’s often painful.
☠️Fear of stopping. We’ll keep doing the things which we’re familiar with doing because that’s how we’ve succeed in the past.
☠️ Fear of letting go. Like the monkey trapped by its refusal to release the banana, we cling to old paradigms, even as they fail us.
☠️ Fear of being vulnerable. Admitting uncertainty or weakness feels risky, especially if you’re in a hierarchical organisation operating in high-pressure environments. (That’s Why #SpecialForces and #SpecialProjectTeams tend to be more egalitarian.
☠️Fear of stepping into the unknown. Novelty triggers discomfort—we crave the familiar.
☠️Fear of transformation. We say we’re afraid of change but in reality we change constantly to stay in the same place or to feel the same way. What we’re really scared of, especially in hierarchical organisations, is transformation—the deep, irreversible kind—that terrifies us.
This resistance keeps us stuck, and in a VUCA (volatile, uncertain, complex, ambiguous) world and staying stuck is a dangerous place to be.
Adventure-Based Learning Experiences (ABLE) offers a solution -Dynamic Teaming Workshops.
These experiences push teams and leaders into novel, challenging, and sometimes uncomfortable scenarios.
Why? Because discomfort is the crucible of growth. In these moments, people learn to:
👀 Notice the signals early.
🤔 Assess and respond with clarity, not panic.
💨 Adapt to complex, unfamiliar challenges. 🏃♂️➡️
ABLE isn’t just a luxury; it’s becoming a necessity.
The pace of change isn’t slowing down, and transformation—personal, professional, organisational—isn’t optional. It’s essential.
If your team or leadership is struggling to navigate this complexity, ask yourself: Are we paying attention to the weak signals?
Or are we stuck in resistance, waiting until the tidal wave hits?
Let’s build resilience, together.
