Black Friday: A Reflection on Values, Purpose, and the Need for Change

This month is Black Friday…Everyday these days, that’s how desperate our lives have got. —an everyday event that epitomises consumerism at its most chaotic.

It’s a frenzy of queues, BS and stress.

It thrives on scarcity, ignites urgency, and often leaves us with things we didn’t really need.

And yet, here we are, as a society, conditioned to see this as normal.

But is it?

When I look at the work I do—building resilient, purpose-driven individuals and dynamic teams—I can’t help but think about how different things could be.

Imagine a world where we rushed to connect instead of consuming.

A world where we competed not for the best deal, but for the boldest ideas on making the world better.

Adventure-based learning has taught me a vital lesson: we thrive when we simplify, connect, and focus on what truly matters.

Whether trekking the Yorkshire Three Peaks in the rain or co-creating values with a leadership team, these moments show me that fulfillment doesn’t come from what we own but from what we experience.

Instead of rushing to buy something this week or persuading someone to buy something useless and short lived, consider these challenges:

Seek connection—go for a walk with someone who inspires you.

Create purpose—start a conversation about how your team can thrive, not just survive.

Embrace adventure—do something new, challenging, and real.

Black Friday isn’t just a symptom of misplaced priorities—it’s an invitation to choose differently.

Let’s redefine success and lead lives focused on courage, clarity, and compassion.

The world doesn’t need another sale.

It needs bold leaders, dynamic teams, and a renewed commitment to making a difference.

Who’s with me?
